This is a picture of U.S. Soldiers (I think either Army or National Guard) raising an Oregon Ducks flag in either Iraq or Afghanistan. The photograph recreates the historical raising of the American Flag on the island of Iwo Jima during the Battle of Iwo Jima atop of Mount Suribachi during World War II. The original picture was also used to create the Marine Corp Memorial next to the
Arlington National
Cemetery near Washington D.C.
The scene also inspired the 1949 movie classic The Sands of Iwo Jima starring John Wayne.
